Description

Given the flow rate to be filtered and the geometric characteristics of a system of rapid descending sand or sand and anthracite filters, simulate the annual operating costs and find the "payback" year corresponding to the installation of Filtralite to replace the existing filter bed.

Comments

The following assumptions were adopted for the preparation of this comparative study. Saint-Gobain has a complete study in which they can be reviewed.

  • Original filter bed composed of sand or sand and anthracite.
  • Service life of the filter bed: 20 years.
  • Annual anthracite loss: 7.5%.
  • Estimated price for kWh: R$0.33.
  • Cost of chemical products - per cubic meter produced: R$0.16.
  • Washing the filters: done only with water and directly using pumps.
  • Electricity cost per m³ of water for washing: R$0.01.
